My DD is officially Gifted and Talented-opposite of a stealth boast

Oooooh Just spotted this topic.

DD went on a specially selected Gifted and Talented trip today-I have the letter- official proof,may yet get it framed.

Managed to get to year 9 before this happened and yes don't know who was more surprised DD or parents of DD

May have to refer to her as G'n'TDD in future posts

I don't understand.

Um, is this the opposite of a stealth boast as in ' DD is thick'?

Or as in blatantly obvious 'my DD is a genius'

She is delightful and also dyslexic....Yes it was "only" an art trip but such a huge thing to her and to us.

Aww - it must be lovely to be arty. I can't draw for anything.

I wish people would stop having a go at parents being proud of their kids academic talents. I hope your dd has a wonderful time on her trip and am pleased that the school differentiates and rewards excellence. {boast away its hard enough in real life without those on line putting a downer on it when it is a good thing}

My DD is a gifted musician. She passed her grade 8 with an exceptionally high mark when she was 14 - there I'll join in with the 'open' boasting! I can't believe she's my daughter sometimes. It's just lovely isn't it?
As long as they're nice......

My daughter is only 16mo so definitely not gifted and talented in anyone's eyes but mine yet :-)
I am however extremely proud of the fact that she worked out how to put her own shoes and socks on at around 9 months old, and if she's in the right mood I can now give both to her (or ask her to collect) and let her get on with it! Saves much time in the morning

I'm sooo impressed. :) Take advantage of her shoe-skills as much as you can.
You might be able to train her to wash the kitchen floor within a few months - I kid you not. DD could make a passable go at washing the kitchen floor when she was 2. Also dusting.

Brilliant Big Whoop, definately take advantage of shoe skills as by 5 they will have so many more important things to think about and don't listen any more! They seem to forget that they need them on to leave the house!!

I am in awe of whoop's DD - mine could just about manage shoes, but socks at 16 months - no blinking chance!

However, DD1 has just been officially notified she is Gifted and Talented by her secondary school - she and a group of her peers were taken out of class and told last week. Apparently we poor parents will get a letter home after half term. She is G&T in maths, English, Science, Humanities and Art. I am a bit stunned mullet at this - yes, she is bright and she got L6 in English and maths last year, but she did get a heck of a lot of SATs training so I was a bit about the level and whilst praising her also told her that this was not a reason to not work hard. And no, I am not a tiger mother.

The art I knew - she has a real flair for it and always has.

Her school is an ordinary comprehensive, good but not OFSTED outstanding - but they do have a very active G&T programme with lots of extra activities and outings. Well, DD seems keen so I'm going to let her dive in and enjoy. I am very proud of her and I am still going to nag her about doing her homework. And tidying her room.

Well done you. Not sure, however, that I agree with schools offering trips as a "reward" for talent, rather than for effort. I have very clever children (no such thing as a G&T program here) but would hate to see them heading off to an Art Gallery, having been "chosen" over their friends and peers who might not be Maths or Science experts but might just be really, really good at something else, like making friends, or building bikes or looking after their granny. Congratulations, anyway. Sorry to rant.

The outings tend to be educational, not Alton Towers - think lectures in maths at Cambridge Uni sort of thing. DD will enjoy it and get something out of it. It's definitely about effort alongside the ability, you don't get to coast in this group. Which is as it should be.
