Amazing playing and the recorder player won- as ds said "against all the anti recorder prejudice too".

She was a fantastic performer with huge stage presence as well as great music. Interestingly the only one at an ordinary school.

Sad to hear the bassoonist didn't get on at a non music school though - there are state schools where standing up in front of the whole school and playing a great recorder solo isn't a source of bullying thank goodness ( DS has just done his GCSE performance on recorder too).

I know the Bassoonist, at primary it was fine, but the secondary she first went to really under estimates kids who don't get into its top set. She also has/had an amazing singing voice.
Her parents have really fought to get her and her siblings a good education (although they didn't do what most people would have done, and move to the other side of town).

Lots of cheering here when the recorder player won! Just fabulous.

My children's primary school doesn't teach the recorder at all any more - it's a horrible squeaky instrument, apparently. Hmmmmmm.

I thought the saxophonist had an absolutely beautiful sound. She obviously had a few squeaks near the end which meant she was never going to win, but I could have listened to her all day.

I just love BBC Young Musician. Agree, the recorder player really did stand out and clearly loved what she was doing on stage. My second favourite was the clarinetist.

Have to say though, this round was one of the closest I have seen - often one or 2 stand out, but in this round, all were exceptional. Can't wait for the percussion next week!
