Does anyone have an 8/9/10 YO child who is G&T for literacy and who would like to correspond with my 8 YO DD? (Email or snail mail - either is fine!)
While DD has always been interested in reading, writing has recently become her passion and she is currently working on a novel. (I realize, as I type this, how ridiculous it sounds, but it's the truth!)
DD has been lamenting of late about how lonely she feels because (in her words) she 'can't conduct a decent conversation with anyone at school' and, although she does have a couple of friends, she keeps telling me how wonderful it would be if she could find someone of her own age, and with her same intellectual curiosity, to corresond with.
DD's teacher is very sweet and makes time to do extra activities with her, and, despite working v. long days as a London commuter, I do my best to keep her stimulated, but I can tell that this isn't enough for her: what she needs is not more time spent engaging in adult conversation with grown-ups, but time spent talking to like-minded children with whom she can empathise.
Anyway, I feel emarrassed really, writing this, because it sounds like I'm bragging or something, but it is starting to become a real problem and it would be great to hear from anyone whose DCs might be interested in striking up a correspondence.
