Arthritis- do I need to see a doctor?

I am 51 and have gradually been getting pain in one finger in particular. It can flare up for no reason, but it can also be as as result of doing something arduous (eg. I was flattening thick card board packing boxes which were staples together)

When I look at my finger I think it's starting to take in that tell tale arthritic look so I suspect this is what it is. I don't seem to have it in any other fingers or hands yet.

Do be I need to see a doctor? What can they do?

Very little ime.
X-rays to confirm OA & instructions to take painkillers when needed. If it’s quite severe (mine is unfortunately) then naproxen but otherwise there isn’t much they do.
Occupational therapy gave me some padded small things to put over my really bad finger joints and wrist splints, told me to look at this website then discharged me after that one appointment.

Hey.
I'm sorry I have no experience in arthritis. I'd be inclined to male an appt to speak to or see a GP just so they can check it over and advise themselves. And then obviously if it is noted down, and it continues or you experience this on other areas and fingers, they can then link the two and determine what is wrong.

Is it worth getting it confirmed that your own diagnosis is correct?

Also if you need a lot of painkillers it's probably worth discussing with them.
