I have Implanon but could I be pregnant?

Hi, i'm 16 years old and last month I was showing signs that I might be pregnant and I haven't been on my period for two months now but I thought nothing of it because I've got the contraceptive implant (Implanon) which is over 99% effective so I thought there was no way I could be, but all this week I've been feeling sick a lot and I keep getting like cramps but not like period cramps and it hurts when i stretch my abdomen too much or like suck my belly in as well as alot of other things. I put it to the back of my mind though thinking I was just being paranoid but then yesterday my arm started really aching where my implant is so I googled to see if anyone had gotten pregnant whilst using it and on just one forum there was at least ten women saying that they have got pregnant with it in so now i'm really worried!. Also i've heard that the hormone released can give a false negative.
Am I just being paranoid or do you think there's a chance?

Hello Kirsty.

Obviously can't tell you if you are pregnant or not. Have you thought about doing a test?

Is there anyone one at home you can talk to about this, such as your mum, an older sister or close family friend? Someone who could be with you while to do a pregnancy test? It really sounds like you could do with some support in real life.

There are risks (even small ones) with most contraceptives. Hormones based ones like the implant can make you feel quite strange and sometimes you can have symptoms that are similar to pregnancy ones.

If I was you, I would talk to someone close to you. Visit the doctor or the family Planning clinic - whoever put the implant in - to talk about how you are feeling.

Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

I think talking to the FPC/GP would be a good idea too.

I had Implanon put in 6 weeks ago, and have not had a period, but wasn't having periods anyway due to breastfeeding.

Hormonal contraception can make you feel strange, I was on the minipill for a while before implanon and had a couple of false alarms when I could have sworn that I had morning sickness.

Hope you talk to someone in RL soon. Take care.
