Ive changed my name for this because i am just too embarrassed to "out" myself.

I have what i think is a boil on my bum.... it is rock hard, quite red and about the size of a 50p piece.

DH is refusing to pop it for me, and I cant reach it being pregnant. Really DONT want to go to the doctors.

Someone help me please because it really hurts, cant sit down without tears forming in my eyes!

You're not supposed to pop boils. Honestly, I think Twig is right - take a painkiller (paracetamol is ok when pg), sleep on your front, and go to your GP asap.

starlover · 17/08/2005 22:01

agree with everyone GO TO THE DOCTOR!

nearly 3 years ago dp got an abcess on his bum. he left it and left it until one night it finally burst.
he ended up in a&e having it cleaned out. it was the size of a plum!!!
he had a nurse round every morning for 2 weeks to clean and pack it and he was in agony!

so please.. get it seen to! in all likelihood it isn't an abcess... but don't take the risk

oh yes.... and dp's still isn't completely healed

hester · 17/08/2005 22:03

I agree with Blu - it sounds like a boil and you shouldn't try to pop it yourself (risk of forcing the poison into your bloodstream or something). You'll need to get it lanced and packed by a doctor.

Off to doctors at 10am

Female doctor so less embarrassing

Magnesium Sulphate has done nothing so not sure if it is a boil now and it hurts a lot more than last night too.

Thank you all. Will update later!

bomb..the magnesium sulphate should do the trick. Standard treatment for thngs like this and infested tropical ulcers when Ilived in the South Seas as a kid.
Can sympathise..only last night was telling my dh about a mosquito bite on my bum that got infected when I was about 16 (had been on a trip home form boarding school.)

The agony!!!!! Aaaarghhhh!
Couldn't sit or walk properly. The paste (Magnoplasm was/is the brand name...in Oz at least) did the trick. I actually felt it pop.
The relief........ Siiiighhhhhh!!

Still got a bloody big scar.

moondog · 18/08/2005 09:35

Oh...just read your last post.
What a bummer! (Sorry,couldn't resist.)
Never mind,a little prick and it'll all be over (as the actress said to the bishop.)

Toothache · 18/08/2005 09:45

I had a boil on my......ahem..... upper thigh area when I was a teenager! My GP told me to bathe it very hot (as hot as possible without burning) salty water. Do this every hour or so for 5-10mins at a time and it should eventually get a good head on it ready to pop!

Beware though.... you won't BELIEEEEEEEEVE the amount of blood and pus and gunk that comes out them! I still have a scar from one on my chin too!

boilonmybum · 18/08/2005 10:13

Well doctors have confirmed its a boil.

Got anitbiotics and painkillers.

i,m glad you went to dr,s sometimes thinking about going is always worst than what happens when you get there,i bet dr was really nice.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 18/08/2005 10:28

cant be arsed to change my name again... its me!!

Yeah, doctor was lovely, she was really sympathetic and has given me the strongest stuff she can to clear it up quickly. She wanted to give me some other stuff but because of being pregnant she couldnt.

Lets hope it works... the antibiotics look like horse tablets - they're HUGE!

Charlee · 18/08/2005 10:45

starlover · 18/08/2005 10:46

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 18/08/2005 12:17

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 19/08/2005 12:43

ITS POPPED!!!

Hoorah! The relief is amazing!

happymerryberries · 19/08/2005 12:44

were you told not to drink while on the antibiotics btw? Because you can drink on some of them.

Glad it popped!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 19/08/2005 12:49

it actually doesnt say on the leaflet anything about alcohol.... not sure i want to risk it being 31 weeks pg though.

I know the pain killers say not to drink, but i dont need them now because it doesnt hurt!!!

happymerryberries · 19/08/2005 12:50

Sorry, had forgotten that you are PG!

Which one are you taking and I can look it up in my book of drug interactions if you like?
