I have stopped smoking about 1 month ago, so far I didnt put on weight but at the same time I need to lose a couple of stones..Do you think it is doable or I'm setting myself for a failure ?? Would love to hear about your experiences !!!

When I stopped smoking several years ago, I decided to try and do more exercise to compensate for potential risk of weight gain...

Definitely worth thinking about as you'll find the initial improvement in your aerobic capacity kicks in within about a month so you'll find yourself capable of doing more exercise than you would have been before. It also gives you another incentive to stay off the cigarettes as well!

I have started running and managed to complete a 5 k race, aiming for a 10 k in 3 months time but I'm not exactly seeing the weight falling off !!

Well done! 10K is a great distance to aim for.

And do you mean that you've not lost the weight you were hoping for or you've seen no effect on your body shape at all as a result of the running?

Yep my body shape didnt change, I have a fat belly and a big bum, saying that I have only been running once a week lately. I have got to move my arse more than that !!

It can take a while but the running should have an effect.

Some of it is certainly in the technique - running upright and keeping your posture while you run will certainly tone your core muscles (tummy).

Equally, running more regularly will also help - 3 times a week would be great, or even if a couple of those are brisk walks if the other is a slightly longer run.
