lightsabre related incident

Ds1 whacked the back of my knee on sunday with his lightsabre during a meltdown. He's not that strong but it came up with a tiny lump at the time. Now there's a big bruise spreading in both directions up my thigh and down my calf and I'm a bit worried that it's damaged a vein or something. Is that normal?

does no-one have any lightsabre knowledge then?

I dont think it matters that it was a light sabre. It might as well have been a broom handle.

I dont think it is normal, cornsilk, I would have it seen to by a doctor.

(fwiw, I think you will find you get more replies if you refer to your injury in your heading, as some people (such as me, with a slightly weird mind) would think about all the various ways a lightsabre could be inserted.....)

dh said to go to the accidental injury unit this morning- I did go but is was really busy and I felt a bit worried about saying.'I've got a bruise on my leg' to the nurse'- I thought she'd go so I legged it. Maybe I should go back later.

You might have gotten a bit of a cork Cornsilk; perhaps try putting some ice on it for awhile and elevating.

Hope it feels better soon - may the force be with you.

thanks - good excuse not to do any cleaning today
But cork? What?

did the veins swell a bit after?

Dh got me with a fly swatter* and for such a light tap it really hurt, the same thing happened to me, it was a damaged vein, the gp told me (went as was pregnant) that if you hit the exact right spot with just enough force this can happen. Was jolly uncomfortable for a couple of days though.

  • not intentionally, he was after a wasp, and I got caught in the crossfire - I am allergic so he kills on sight
cornsilk5793 · 29/06/2010 10:18

yes it did swell just on the vein
so is it normal then?

Apparantly nothing you can do, other then take nurefon, reduces swelling a bit. I warn you it is going to get worse looking though , it is the blood spreading where it popped. You can always get it checked by a gp (mine checked for thrombis lumps while he was there), but I wouldn't panic. Mine happened on a saturday and I left it till the monday to see the gp. I was just amazed that something so minor at the time hurt that much.

Wear a skirt lots and make ds feel guilty , as very soon it will look a whole lot worse than it feels (if this is what you have done, does sound like it) and milk some sympathy. I got loaaaads at work when they saw it and got out the drinks run for a week.

oh yes it is normal by the way
