10 days ago (whilst on hols in spain) I developed severe diarrhoea and excruciating abdominal pain (and I'm no wuss). I also had a fever and was shivery.

No vomiting at any point though.

It got so bad I ended up going to the docs there and was given 3 different medications. These didn't help at all.

We've now been back for 3 days and I still have the diarrhoea and the pains (albeit not as severe).

I can't face eating much and have lost 10 lbs.

I'm going to make an appointment for tomorrow with my doctor but was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this?

I realised that I made a tray of ice using tap water although these were consumed days before I got ill and DP was unaffected.

cryptosporidium maybe

BunnyLebowski · 23/06/2010 20:04

Have just read a bit about that and it sounds spot on.

Didn't like the bit about it potentially lasting for 5 weeks though .

Thanks for your help .

Has your GP sent off a stool sample for investigation?

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 23/06/2010 20:13

campiyla bacter did this to me. Agony, though I recvoered quickly enough (back to normal after a week).

What's that other thing people get in mediteranean places - giardia?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 24/06/2010 07:39

DD had both giardia and entomoeba hsystolitica, not at the same time and not in the med. Ask the doctor to send a stool spec off.
