My 15mth DS was given the MMR vaccine 5.5 wks ago. This weekend he broke out in a pin prick rash over his whole body and a raised temperature. He also has a sore throat and has been tugging at his ears. My 1st thought was it was a result of the vaccine. Nurse practitioner said it was unlikley to be be linked to the jab due to the time scales and is more than likely a virus. The rash looks like the rubella rash. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I had a severe reaction to the measles jab so maybe am a bit paranoid about this!

yes, did the glass test straight away and nurse repeated it. Didn't realise the vaccine wasn't 100%. Thnks.

If there aren't any measles or rubella outbreaks reported in your area then it's unlikely to be measles, and 5.5 weeks is too long for a classical vaccine-associated maculopapular rash. As it's a blanching rash it won't be ITP (which can be a rare complication of vaccination).

Children get lots of rashes around that age and very few are easily diagnosed clinically (that is, without a lab test). He's a bit young for parvovirus; and despite the sore throat, it doesn't sound like a streptococcal rash which is usually more obvious and bright red. Did the NP look in his ears to see if they were inflamed?
