Pill to stop period coming when due?

We are going on a weekend away when my period is due next week. I've heard a pill mentioned that can stp your period coming...has any one got any experiences?

Are you on the pill already? If so, you just keep taking that without a break. If not, then no idea!

Years ago (1992?) I was on holiday with a friend who had a pill to do just this... and her period came anyway! She was furious.
Hopefully it has improved since then.

Yes - it's called noreisterone (sp?) it's a progesterone drug, you take 3 tablets a day, starting 3 days before your period is due. I've used it a few times, you will need to get a GP to prescribe it.

Norethisterone is the name I think. I've taken it twice in the last year. First time worked like a dream, until I stopped taking it, and then had the period from hell. I also took it the next month (loooong story!), but the holiday I was taking it for was cancelled, so I only took 2 tablets. Again, period from hell. Like post-birth bleeding. Ever since my periods have been really messed up. I don't regret taking it, my first holiday would have been rubbish if I'd had my period, but I've had to pay the consequences for nearly a year now.
