DS (5) has red blotches on legs after starting Amoxicillin

DS had bronchitis so was prescribed Amoxicillin. He started the course day before yesterday and seems lots better, though today I noticed slightly pink blotches on his buttock and backs of his thighs. He did not seem to notice them or be bothered at all.

Anything to worry about??? He is at school while I am childminding, but it has started now to play on my mind.....

I see from the internet that Hives are a side effect of the the medicine. Not sure if I need to whip him out of school and get him seen to or if I am worrying unduly.

Can anyone help with any advice??
Thanks

My ds gets that with Amoxycillin, I took him back to the doctors and they changed the medication. Hives can appear on the skin but also inside the mouth eyes and ears. also if they are on the soles of his feet then it will make them sore.

If they are not bothering him then I would make an appointment for afterschool if you can and get his medication changed. Antihistamine will bring the swelling down.

The school will notify you if he is suffering!

Hope he feels better soon.

same happens to me and i feel awfully sick on it. stop using it and get a different one from the dr.

thanks! yes, I reasoned with myself that the school will let me know if things worsen!

I will get his meds changed. I am allergic to penicillin so DS prob is too, I remember being told when he was little that it may take a while for the allergy to appear.

Thanks again - trying to balance being overly cautious with too dismissive!

Dd came out in big blotches all over her body after having it as a baby. Took her back to the Dr who had students with him, he said it was classic allergic reaction and wrote allergic to penicillin in big letters on her file.

Bloody pooping doctors told me to ring back at 2 for a telephone consultation.

Yes, I know that they are busy, but I have no idea how worried or not to be.
