Where's that tampon gone?

During my last period (about 3 weeks ago) I thought I had put a tampon in in the middle of the night but when I woke up couldn't find it. I had a good search around (sorry) several times in the next few days but no sign. Could it have travelled actually into my uterus? Would I not feel some pain? I'm sure it would smell by now too.

I am having some cramping but not due a period for a couple of weeks yet (35 ish day cycle).

Am I just going potty due to 10 month old non sleeping baby and I didn't actually put one in?

I had to go to the doctor once to get a tampon removed. I was alerted by the smell. I now worry regularly that I've get one stuck up there. I have on occasion put two in by mistake Am I losing my mind?
