Any idea what this is? My thumb has gone weird.

The fleshy part of my thumb has gone kind of purpley, tender and a bit numb. It just came on suddenly last night and I don't remember injuring it or anything. I was just sat down doing nothing much!

Is it going to fall off?

I had something like that happen a few years ago after carrying some very heavy bags of shopping.

I panicked and thought my finger was going to drop off too so saw a doc -it seemed I'd just burst a blood vessel (??) in my thumb hence the purple bruise-like colouring. It also felt very tender.

It happened several times again after that as I'd obviously weakened it or something

Aaaah, right, yes that sounds like a reasonable explanation. Glad to know it won't drop off! DS was worried I wouldn't be able to do thumbs up if I had no thumb (because that is the main use of a thumb isn't it?).
