Am having a sebaceous cyst removed from my scalp tomorrow. I have had it done before several years ago but i still get really really nervous.
Is there anything i can take in the morning to calm my nerves. ?
The op is at 12.30pm.

I have had this done before, two removed from my scalp using just local anesthetic (sp??). The surgical team were really lovely and we had a good chat whilst they were doing the op, which def helped to put me at ease.

I have got two more now, bloomin things are really annoying - suppose I should go and get referred to get them sorted again.

Rescue remedy is a good idea though, do you have a local as well?

Hope it all goes smoothly.

The funniest thing is when they get out the KY Jelly to stick your hair down in a parting so they can see what they are doing!

I think I just had two stitches in each last time, quite sore once the anesthetic had worn off - but felt much better by the next day.

Make sure you have a big glass of something nice waiting for you!

Go to Helios and get a mega dose of Arnica, it's sure to help

chaosisawayoflife · 09/06/2010 11:23

Can I ask why you are getting them removed if you don't mind. Are they very noticeable?
The reason I ask is I have one right at the front of my hairline. It is covered by hair but I can see it whenever I look in the mirror. It has got bigger recently too. I asked my doc about it a while ago and she said that the pct may not fund removal of it because it is cosmetic. She also said the scar from removal may be more obvious than the cyst itself. I'm in two minds about whether to try to get it removed or not. I'm scared that it will get bigger and more noticeable, and then if I was to have it removed the scar would be bigger.

I had one done a month or so ago - took rescue remedy beforehand - is all fine once the local is in - just a bit of rummaging around..I have some teeny ones which i guess i'll have to have done in time - pesky things...good luck -all will be over in no time !

chaosisawayoflife · 09/06/2010 11:24

Oh, and good luck with your op. I second the recommendation for rescue remedy, and there is another Bach Flower Remedy called Aspen which is very good for fear, I use it when I'm going on a plane.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/06/2010 11:26

Chaos - mine was removed because it showed through my hair parting -so that's cosmetic really - it wasn't painful or catching on anything. Don't see why pct wouldn't fund it.
In my experience they tend to grow reasonably quickly and a larger scar would be more noticeable

iloveasylumseekers · 09/06/2010 11:29

No, my PCT doesn't fund cosmetic procedures either

maltesers · 09/06/2010 14:32

Well, i am back and have had the operation. Hair, full of blood and 5 stitches. Very nice Doctor. . .who kept chatting all the way. I think the Rescue Remedy helped a bit. . .stopped me feeling like i was on Death Row and more resigned to the fact that only the local needle would hurt (which it did ) and the rest was no pain at all. Just waiting for the local to wear off now and the soreness to kick in.
