Awful Period Pain but no period

Hellopuppycalling · 27/05/2010 22:17

I thought I was coming on last night as I had really bad period pain before bed and have done ever since but no bleeding at all - don't know whats going on but its so painful!

Everything feels swollen and sore inside, especially when I sit down but no sign of the period/bleeding. Weird.

I've had to have a hot water bottle on my tummy all afternoon and this evening, have taken paracetamol too.

I have endometriosis so know what bad periods are like, also had my first baby last spring and I've never had anything like this before.

The pain is very period-like and is constant rather than coming and going. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I don't take the pill, don't have a coil and have had at least one period since I last did "it" with my husband. Any ideas? This is so painful! Thanks

I also forgot to say I've had somewhat of an upset tummy today too.... don't know if that means anything?

You should go to the GP. It could be nothing, or it could be something as serious and life-threatening as an Ectopic pregnancy.

thesunshinesbrightly · 28/05/2010 00:31

I just posted the same thing.

Aitch · 28/05/2010 00:34

have you thought about doing a pg test?

winnybella · 28/05/2010 00:40

Theoretically speaking you could have gotten pg and then have your period. Could be EP. Can you do a test now?

mrsfollowill · 28/05/2010 00:51

It may be appendicitis- I had similar symptons. Have you got a high temp? Do you feel sick? If this does not feel better soon phone emergency doc or go to A&E. I got appendicitis whilst PG and paced the floor all night worrying about the baby. Felt weird and bloated and the pain was not 'classic for appendicitis (NHS direct advice was you have a stomach upset)'. Not normal what you describe get some help now. Hope this works out for you.

Do seek medical advice from the GP and get a gynae referral (particularly if you have happened to see such a person before now).

It may be the endo flaring up again but am no expert and would stress again that you need to seek medical advice asap.

i would say A&E is appropriate incase poss ectopic or ruptured cyst.

Hellopuppycalling · 28/05/2010 11:28

Hi - thanks for all your messages.

I don't have a temperature or feel sick at all, just the period type pain.

I called the docs this morning but couldn't get an appt so they had the nurse call me back. When she called back I told her all the symptoms and she said it was most likely to be a delayed period but that if it hadn't happened by Tuesday next week then I should try doing a preg test.

She didn't seem concerned at all and just told me to carry on with the paracetamol and hot water bottle. So I guess thats what I have to do.....

ignore her and go to A&E.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/05/2010 12:55

If you do go on A & E ensure you are seen also by a gynae before you leave hospital and mention the previous endometriosis. I say this as your symptoms are not actually a problem that A & E will have much, if any, knowledge about. They could well send you home none the wiser otherwise.

to be on the complete safe side, you should try to rule out pregnancy. it's possible your last period wasn't a period. i do think that your GP is being terribly relaxed about a patient in unbelievable pain... did you underplay it at all with the nurse?

Hellopuppycalling · 28/05/2010 18:23

Hi - another update - I just did a digital pg test and it came up negative. The pain has dulled somewhat over the course of today but still bothering me at times.

I didn't play it down but as the nurse was so unconcerned I guess I didn't push it with her as she sounded like she thought I was just being a bit over worried. Apart from the pain I feel ok thats the thing, so a bit unsure whether I should take it further especially as the test was negative for pregnancy.

I guess I'll just have to see how it goes over the weekend. Thanks again for all your messages and support - was getting a bit concerned there that I might be pregnant and I guess over the course of today I had started wondering "what if" as I had pains in early pregnancy last time, although they didn't feel quite as much like period pains as this does. Ho hum. I'll let you know if anything happens over the weekend.

Thanks

Can I just say that I had exactly the same symptoms prior to being taken in to hospital recently.

It turns out I have a number of large fibroids.

I had such severe pains that I was almost delerious, needed a hot water bottle 24/7, was hot/cold on and off and was in constant pain 'inside'. Infact I couldn't sit down on a chair as it was too painful. I too thought it was severe period pain but I had just finished my period so it didn't make sense. I'd also never had any previous issues with normally associated with fibroids.

Anyway, I hope you feel better soon but I would consider going to hospital if it gets worse. I waited far too long.

I just signed up and read this post.

Happypuppyalling - did you get your period? How long did the period pain last for before you got your period?

I'm experiencing the same thing. This is the second cycle it has happened on. I get period pain a week out from when my period starts. It's a consistent heavy feeling. Last time my period started all of a sudden one week after feeling that heavy period pain feeling. I have had the same feeling this time for 3 days now, so I am waiting to see what happens this time. Very strange, I have never had it before. I have one boy and also had a miscarriage and D&C performed about 3 months ago.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/06/2010 09:29

fraggle

I would seek medical advice asap particularly as you had a D & C done only three months ago. They may have done the D & C too roughly causing such problems now.

Would ask your GP to refer you to a gynae asap.
