Lump and pain in leg - any ideas?

A couple of hours ago I developed a lump on the back of my right leg, just above my knee. It's really sore to the touch and slightly swollen. I can feel it when I walk and my lower leg now feels a bit tingly.

I'm not overweight, I haven't recently travelled anywhere, youngest dc is 14 months old.

I'm a lone parent and it's my dc1's birthday tomorrow so frankly I haven't got to time to expire in my sleep!

How likely is this to be something to be worried about?

How big is it? Is it warm/hot? It might be a deep vein thrombosis and if so you need to get it looked at asap.

Do you think you could have been bitten/stung by something, is it red?

Could you get a babysitter while you go to get it seen?

I`d come round, where do you live?

I was thinking DVT too.

Are you on the combined Pill as it is a risk with it?

I recently had a suspected DVT (turned out not to be) The GP said to watch for heat of the area, swelling and pain when flexing out foot/standing on tip toe.

Ok, just been and checked with the aid of a variety of mirrors and lighting. It's not hot, quite sore but only red because I've been prodding it.

Not on the pill and haven't been for over ten years. The rest of my leg feels a bit odd but not sure if I'm just imaginging things.

I have a small selection of varicose veins but this doesn't seem to be one of those.

Does the flexing/stretching thing make it feel any worse?

Mine turned out to be muscular. Was different to you though in that I had no lump in leg just sudden onset of pain.

MavisGrind · 24/05/2010 21:49

Flexing/stretching has no effect.

Still feel a bit tingly but will assume I will survive the night and get checked out if still there tommorrow.

If it does start to get very hot or swell then it would probably be better to get it checked sooner rather than later.

Best of luck.

Let us know how it goes.
