About to start Cerazette prog-only pill

The Dr prescribed me Cerazette progesterone only pill today. I have been toying with the idea of going back on the pill to have more control over my periods and obviously for contraception. I thought she would prescribe me the combined pill (which I was on for years before my 2 DC's) but due to me being over 35 and couple of other reasons thought the mini-pill was the best.

I was going to start it today, until I read previous threads on here and am now on the brink of changing my mind! I am slightly prone to anxiety and the thought that this pill could exaggerate my anxious feelings is concerning me, not to mention the (unconfirmed) links with miscarriage (still undecided whether we will be ttc for another). I did mention my concerns to Dr about mood swings and she seemed to think it makes PMT better - although this is CONTRARY to what I have read on here. I'm not sure if I'm prepared to take the risk - esp with 2 young DC's.

Anybody have any good experiences on it?

I have been on it for 2 years and have been fine on it. I havent had a period for the majority of the time I have been on it (had one at the start and nothing since). You could always start taking it, see how you get on and come off it if it doesnt suit

Me. I went on it for about 6 months 18 months ago (had been on Depo but wanted something that doesn't stay in your system for so long as preparing to TTC). I can't have the regular pill because of high BP history. Cerazette suited perfectly- I didn't have periods when I was on it and no hormonal madness. When I came off it I conceived in the second month. I didn't notice any side effects at all. I also preferred a pill every day, when I was on the other type many years ago I would forget after the gap week.

I've just come off it, nothing too bad but I don't seem to get on with any pills and Cerazette made me feel slightly permanently hormonal, periods were lighter than normal but lasted longer, and my breasts felt tender and bigger after a few days.

Nothing major but I definitely knew it was in my system, and could feel myself being a bit irrational at times. Have just had a Mirena coil fitted and so far, so good.

Have just come of Cerazette due to it making me feel as though I was pregnant/just about to come on all the time. Had constant period pain. Mind you I was only on it for 1.5 months and I have just had a baby, so the thought that I may be pregnant again was doing my head in. No mental health type issues with it at all, it calmed me down if anything. I have just decided that 2 children are plenty for me, and am back to the doctors on Friday for my Depo injection!

I was fine on it. Went on immediately after birth but when still breastfeeding and no baby blues as such. I did not have a period but had some spotting (as was rubbish at taking it). was on for 6 months but now back on microgynon (lots of scary stories on here too!) and have not forgotten to take any - weird!

I would just see how it goes, be aware of side effects but try not to think about them too much.

I would never go on Cerazette again.
But, each type of pill affects us differently.

Shaz10 · 17/05/2010 22:51

I've had no bother with Cerazette. The only period I had was after being on IV antibiotics.

ThatVikRinA22 · 17/05/2010 23:18

im about to go on it for the second time. i had no problems on it, ive had 18 pill free months and seeing as though DH isnt going to get the snip im going to go back on it.

debka · 18/05/2010 12:16

I was on it for about 3 years and didn't have a period, it was ace. Came off it because we went abroad and it isn't available over there and fell pg within a year (by mistake)...

Absolutely hated cerazette. Went on it after I had DD2 - did nothing but mess my periods around - was having two periods a month and then nothing for a couple of months...terrible mood swings too...so came off it after a couple of years (yes, I put up with it for that long). Like someone has already posted on here - this pill suits some but not all.
