Thought it would have stopped by now as it started at 3 months pp but it is still falling out alot. Has anyone had post baby hairloss go on for this long and does it just stop suddenly or gradually? Also my hair is looking so see-through at the front and temples . Does it ever recover from getting so thin? Thanks so much in advance of any replies.

Don't know about duration, but we had to have the shower unblocked by a plumber after hair started falling out after birth of baby!

My baby was born four months ago and when I wash my hair it looks as if a small furry creature has died and been caught in the plug hole!

I had this problem after the birth of my first child and it did eventually get better. Unfortunately I can't remember how long it took to right itself. I think it's caused by post pregnancy hormones. However, if it does continue there is no harm in speaking to your GP to ask what the score is.

I lost hair from about 4 months PP. And it kicked off again about 3/4 weeks after I stopped BFing at 6 months. Hormones - lovely.

Its now almost 10 months and while hairloss has ceased completely, it will take time for hair to recover - there are some signs of new growth in the last few weeks.

Excessive hairloss (and how on earth you tell the difference post baby I don't know) can be a sign of thyroid problems so if you have weight issues (again post baby who doesn't) and you're knackered (argh)... Actually I'm not being helpful at all. Just go and see GP and ask them to test Iron, B vit levels and thyroid...

I was told that the important thing is that you should be able to see the new hair starting to come in - so if you (or rather someone else!) takes a good look at the thin bits of scalp, there should be the start of some fluffy new little hairs appearing. So long as that's happening, your hair will gradually recover - though it can be a bit tricky to style in the meantime...

But if what you have is bare shiny bits of scalp, then it may be something more than the normal hormonal changes, so you should see the GP and maybe get it checked out.

I agree with the above. Seven months sounds like an excessive amount of time to still be losing hair post pregnancy. You could have some underlying condition, stress-related problem or nutritional deficiency that is causing the hair-loss. I would see your GP.

Thank you to everyone who replied and your helpful advice. I do see some little tufts growing in but not enough. I also feel so exhausted and having quite a few dizzy spells so guess a visit to gp might be in order for some blood tests. The joys of new motherhood eh!. X
