Safe to breastfeed and take combined pill?

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone knows the answer or can give me some advice please?
Just a bit of background, I've been on 2 types of mini pill - 1 being Cerezette over the last 6 months and I'm still experiancing bleeding for pretty much most of the month with both I've tried.
So I went to the doctors yesterday and he has prescribed me a combined pill which will hopefully stop the bleeding but will it be ok if I'm breastfeeding?
I was planning on having to wean my DD off as she's almost 2 and my DH wants our bed and nights back so this may give me the 'shove' I need

Thanks!

AFAIK it is safe, but not recommended because it can reduce your supply. So if you are planning to definitely wean, that may be ok for you.

With your DC being older and feeding well established - ie supply/demand driven rather than hormone driven in early days, it may not have a huge effect. But I know what you mean about the cerazette, I had to stop it because the spotting was almost constant and very annoying.

Hi Hammy01, I am breastfeeding 18 month old dd2 and taking the combined pill at the moment.

I started 2 months ago on the doctor's advice as I was having very frequent heavy periods.

It doesn't seem to have affected my supply at all. I thought it might nudge dd towards weaning but no sign she is ready to stop yet.

The GP assured me it was perfectly safe for me to take it and as dd is a toddler he said it probably wouldn't damage supply.

Brilliant thanks ladies!

I will take it and see what happens...
