I had mine fitted just over two weeks ago, have had constant pain and bleeding, is this normal? Keep reading horror stories about it and wonder if I ever should have had it fitted. Are there any positive experiences out there?

i've had one for 5 years with no problems at all, although if memory serves, it did take a few months to settle down, initially it was like a heavy period then about 4 months of spotting but since then, nothing. actually, have just had it changed today and a new one put in as the original was expiring.

Had mine fitted about 2 years ago, it did take a while to settle down but by about 4 - 6 months I had stopped bleeding and now just have a tiny bit of spotting when I presume I would normally be on a period. Kept being told to just give it time, I was determined to give it 4 months and now I wouldn't give it up it's great having no preiods. Just hold in there.

Lucykate did you have any side effects when you had the new one fitted?

Had mine put in last May. It took a couple of weeks for medium bleeding to stop and then I had spotting for about 6-8 months. Now just get the occasional spotting probably when I would be having a period. I had it put in because my periods were so painful they were almost incapacitating and I was using prescription pain killers. I kept going with the mirena cos anything better than that pain. It has been brilliant.

Mine is great - had it fitted in October 2008, had a bit of spotting but not much and only get some now and again now.

No problems with depression either which can be a side effect and given my long term depressive tendencies was wondering if I would be affected like that.

lifeistough, was done on friday, it hurt a bit having one removed and another straight in, bit of cramping in the evening but fine by saturday, bit of spotting but that's stopping now, all fine so far.

I had one for years before I had DD. I had it removed when I started getting periods every two weeks and was pregnant within a month . Prior to that, though, I'd had no problems with it at all. A bit of backache and some spotting at the outset but otherwise ok for about three years.

I'm thinking of getting another one, btw. I had the same two week period on the mini-pill so I don't think it was the coil so much as the progesterone, IYSWIM.

I just had my first mirena fitted this morning. I feel ok but getting a pain now and then just on the left side of my tummy at the front. Its just about bearable but I'm taking it easy until I have to work later tonight.

The worse thing for me is not being able to wear tampons for the moment I hate the leaky feeling!
