Back and stomach pain. Any ideas?

I have a 6 month old and I am, until last week i was exclusively breastfeeding (i have started to wean, breakfast only) I am on the mini pill, but often forget to take it. More often than not tbh. Not sure if it is relevant.

I have had what I had though felt like period pains, probably for about 2-3weeks? mild back ache, bordering on back pain but not really. And that mild ache in the base of my belly. It felt like i would probably have a period.

Nothing much happened. I did a pregnancy test last week and was given a negative result (vague possibility, but v unlikely anyway, however, if i was it would have been 4wks minimum, i will be doing another one tomorrow just in case).

Over the last couple of days the backache has worsened. Increasing in severity, eminating into my lower abdomen. I cannot really fathom out if the pain from my abdomen is causing the back pain, or vice versa, it seems linked, the pain goes sort of 'through' me. It is not really a dull ache any more. It is not on one side only, it is across the whole of my back, and the whole of my lower abdomen, just above my pelvic bone. The pain makes me feel a little queazy.

It is worse when I sit. Lying eases it, in that kind 'it hurts but in a good way' type of pain you get when stretching out an aching back muscle. Standing up eases it too, but leaves a dull ache there. Bending down makes it worse and then from time to time, no matter what I am doing, it will hurt.

That time to time is increasing in frequency, slowly, not dramatically, but now enough for me to wonder what is going on. No longer feels like a period, but I wonder if it is.

Could it be a period starting? Have only had one in 4 years, and that was 17 months ago or so. Anything else it could be? a pulled muscle from picking up my baby incorrectly?

A urine/kidney infection might give you similar symptoms although you'd probably have a raised temp. too. Could also be the things you have thought of. I think you should go and get it checked out, sounds very uncomfortable.

IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 21:40

It is not a kidney infection. I had several of those, on non-specific UTI and two actual kidney infections and they did not feel like this. Passing urine is fine too, and no temp.

It is uncomfortable. Bordering more than that.

Gallstones? V common during/after pregnancy. Do get it checked out cos I ended up with pancreatitis due to doctors failing to consider them.

IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 21:42

Do you know, i vaguely thought of gallstones. What are they exactly?

OP posts:
IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 21:46

funny reading about it and what the gall bladder is. During my pregnancy i suffered severely from Hypermesis Gravidava, and also because of this/alongside this excessive acid/bile production which also caused me to vomit. I was medicated for both

OP posts:
IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 21:48

no, dont think gallstones. The pain is not higher up. It is low down, both the base of my back (but not for example my spine) and the base of my belly, right inside.

constipation??

alypaly · 06/05/2010 21:51

normally gallstone pain is a bit higher up along the rib cage area. I had mine out last year after docs failed to diagnose gall stones after having quite bad pancreatitis a couple of years earlier. same as malkuth
IDemosthenes you couldnt possibly be pregnant again....could you

Malkuth · 06/05/2010 21:53

Well they were little browny red things in a jar when I saw them! I think they are deposits of bile but am a bit vague as only found out I had them when I was rushed to A & E and put on a morphine drip for 10 days.

Here is the NHS info.

Malkuth · 06/05/2010 21:56

Sorry got distracted by finding out about gallstones and didn't realise you had discounted them. Think you are going to have to make a trip to the GP to be honest.

IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 21:58

ggirl nope, wrong type of pain, it is more of a sharp but fuzzy pain (that probably makes no sense whatsoever) and my bowels are working ok.

alypaly it is possible. I would be 5-6 weeks now if i was, so thought a pregnancy test would come up positive last week. (i say possible, and can be precise about the time, as we have a 6 month old ). There was not a smidge of a line. With DS, i tested at 4wks, or just under and had a line. The pains though, did initially remind me of being pg with ds, in the early stages, had a few twinges that reminded me of a period. But now, it does not feel like that, now it hurts more than twinges. I will do another test tomorrow, just to rule it out.

get checked out incase its an ectopic

IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 22:00

juan would that give me a negative result?

OP posts:
IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 22:03

the pain is slap bang in the middle of abdomen, with the odd twinge that shifts a bit. The back pain is mostly central, but that does move but from one side to another, it is not just one side.

The pain, i have been trying to figure out how to explain it, it is like a hot pain, a sort of heat? i guess (not burning) that emminates from back to front (or vice versa)

OP posts:
juansheet · 06/05/2010 22:04

it shouldnt give a negative result if its attached in the fallopian tube as the HCGH would still register but if it is still unattached I am not sure.tbh

IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 22:04

in the middle of the lower abdomen, i mean, in the centre of it the bottom of my belly.

OP posts:
juansheet · 06/05/2010 22:05

Pelvis inflammatory disease also comes to mind. Please get checked out.

IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 22:10

Oh you have just reminded me where i have had pain like this before! I did have the coil in, and it reminds me of the pain i had with that, before it was removed, because it was stuck after partially expelling. In fact, it was just like this. I remember, because when i googled it, PID came up a lot then. It had in fact imbedded one of the prongs into my womb.

Could it be something to do with that? But i had it removed about 11 weeks ago?

OP posts:
juansheet · 06/05/2010 22:20

it could be inflammation from that. Dont forget how the coil works. it works by creating a hostile environment nad sometimes irritates the lining of the womb, depending on which coil you have had. Also you might have got an infection from partner shortly after having it removed. Its quite common.Go to docs and get a swab done. Have you had any temps at all. Have you used pain killers or anti inflammatories

IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 22:24

I wont have got any infection from DH! If he had an infection i would have had it by now, been with him 13 years! I had the IUS (with the hormone) it was hostile alright. Doc initially said 'oh it will settle down' and i gave it like 6 weeks, and in the end, after the threads dug in 2 inches from the exit i knew there was a problem. It was invasive. So i guess i might have got an infection from that?

OP posts:
IDemosthenes · 06/05/2010 22:26

No temp that i have noticed, but had a couple of blinding headaches recently (i expect that is lack of sleep related), only been taking paracetemol when it is at its worst.

OP posts:
juansheet · 06/05/2010 22:50

sometimes you can get an infection from your partner and they can be totally asymptomatic as in thrush. Men can carry it under the foreskin and quite often dont have a symptoms.

Try ibuprofen/voltarol as long as you have no stomach problems or paramol if it is bad

IDemosthenes · 07/05/2010 06:32

Can i take strong stuff like paramol while breastfeeding?

I am absolutely certain I did not get any kind of infection from my DH. Neither of us have been promiscious or ever had unprotected sex with other partners before each other many moons ago.

OP posts:
IDemosthenes · 07/05/2010 06:40

Oh and DH is circumcised.

I would get myself down to GP tbh, rather than guessing on here.
