Forgetting names - people I have known for ages, not just met

Anyone had any experience of finding it really difficult to remember the names of peole you have known for ages? It took me a couple of weeks to remember the surname of one of my neighbours, I often stare blankly at people at work who I have known for ages etc. I find I have to put a mental tag against every name to be able to recall it.

I am mid forties. Is this just getting old or should I investigate further. It feels exhausting, like having to dredge the name up from the depths of my memory.

Is it just with names or is it other things? Do you have children? If so how many and what age?

I know from my experience that I have so much to think about with three kids and the exhaustion that comes with it that I can forget names, words, what I was meant to do etc... When you have a lot on your mind I think that can be a factor.

I have exactly the same problem. I put it down to old age / too much going on in my brain.

I'm 41 by the way.

I am like this all the time - I think our brains just get full of other everyday stuff and something has to 'give'. I dont think it necessarily has to be an age thing. Another thing is I just never recognise someone if I see them somewhere other than where I usually see them. I think there is an official name for this.

I have 3 dcs & am on my own so I am busy. Am uber organised and have no problem holding down a demanding job so I do find this strange. Suppose it is old age or could it be the start of the menopause?

3 kids, on your own and holding down a demanding job?? No wonder you can't remember peoples names! I guess the start of the menopause could be a factor. Maybe worth speaking to your dr?
