Has anyone ever joined a Gym and used it as much as they intended to at the start?

Just curious.

And if you did ...

Did you get results?

Can you give me actual stats?

i joined a gym over a year ago, I knew that I would only have time to go twice a week.
I Do two classes twice a week, pretty much every week, apart from school holidays as no childcare,=.
I do enjoy it and have really toned up.
I do spin an body pump classes.

Yes I did, I when just about every night, lost loads of weight. I wasn't getting on very well with DH at the time. We are all sorted now though so I haven't been for years and am fat again.

yes i do, but I go to classes rather than use the gym. I love it, all that leaping around to loud music and lifting weights

its social event for me too!

mosschops30 · 27/04/2010 19:19

yes, i joined my current gym 2 years ago, despite being really ill after giving birth in November I am now back training 4 times a week and have so far shed 3 stone of the 4 stone i gained during pregnancy.
Only one stone to go

I do a mixture of stuff so I dont get bored, swimming, pilates, spin, gym. I love it, feel awful when I miss it

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/04/2010 19:26

well im forcing myself to go 3 times a week to the detriment of housework.

im just using the gym at the min - but when i have passed my fitness test im going to do classess aswell for a change.

i hate the thought of going but im ok when i get there. its the running that kills me.

my sis says you can definitely tell im doing something, she says my posture has improved. ive no idea why im not losing weight though.

maybe im going to have to make a more concerted effort with my diet to lose a few pounds.

I joined about 1 1/2 years ago and started off going a couple of times a week - I now go to the gym one day, body pump another and an aerobics class. I go in the morning when dd is at school and ds at nursery for his 2 1/2 hours. I wasn't sure myself if I would keep it up (and neither was dh) but it has become part of my routine and I feel a bit put out when I have to miss my classes i.e. next week when my lo's are only at school/nursery for 2 day and the 3 days they are off are my normal days at the sports centre (damn the inservice days and polling day!!).

I am definitely more toned and managed to drop a dress size although havent lost much weight recently - portion size might be my issue though!

A couple of years ago I was a member of a gym right by the station which made it really easy to go after work. I went about 4 times a week and was the slimmest I've ever been in my adult life - it was fantastic.

I had to stop because of finances, and also had a stressful period which resulted in me eating like a horse so I piled on the weight again.

EldritchCleavage · 29/04/2010 14:26

Yes. Lost nearly 3 stone, firmed up massively and kept it up for years. Went all through pregnancy (despite hostile looks) and felt marvelous but now I have DS it's proving difficult...

howdoo · 29/04/2010 15:39

I didn't join a gym, but I did buy a treadmill at the end of January, and I go on it about 6 times a week for about 35-45 minutes each time. DH was a bit dubious about shelling out for something that he thought I would lose interest in, but I love it. Since end of Jan, I have lost:
3 1/2 inches from my hips
3 1/2 inches from my waist
2 1/2 inches from each thigh!
Also, have lost about 1 1/2 stone since the beginning of the year. I am also eating sensibly, but not on an actual diet I would say.
Obviously at a gym, you wouldn't just be running, so it should be even better. The problem is making the time to go. With a treadmill in the house, I have NO excuse!

I have!!

I joined a gyn in 1999 just after I had my first dc, and I have -somehow- kept it up, through subsequent pg, bf etc.

I go x5 per week and I am in the best shape & fitness of my life. PLUS it keeps me sane!

herjazz · 29/04/2010 23:27

only before I had children.. when I was a lithe little thing obsessed with working out

has been in fits and starts since then. When I did binge there it was great. Tho my family circumstancess are not really conducive to going anymore and have finally cancelled it
