I finished my first pack on Wednesday. I haven't stopped bleeding since starting it nearly 4 weeks ago, I am just flooding , I've had a couple of embarrassing moments where I've flooded through (extra large) tampon and two pads (whilst out and about).

Also I feel really snappy and my perception of my marriage etc has altered drastically, I'm moody etc.....

Anyone experienced similar. Should I change contraception?

No advice for you Heinz but just popped over to say hello as I have just started a thread about my own period/contraceptive difficulties.

Hope you get the info you need.

To cut a long story short... here

Lots of us have had bad experiences with it. If you're not happy definitely go back to GP.

Thanks Rockbird, off to look now.

I think this was the first one I went on at 18 & had no probs at all.
Then I was changed to Marvelon as my Dr had concerns about Microgynon I think-or it was an "old style" pill or something.

But you shoudn´t be flooding whilst on the pill.
Go back & try something else.

I've just read the link Rockbird posted. Am shocked at the amount of bad experiences!

I came off it as well. It made me feel nauseous, anxious, had painful periods, and suffered bad daily headaches as well. And I put on about 5 stone in weight. All slowly improving now.

Rockbird · 24/04/2010 12:58

I think the story is that Microgynon is the cheapest one and that's why they automatically stick everyone on it. It suits some people but if you're one of the ones it doesn't suit then get it changed. I was stupid and didn't realise it could have such an affect so I had a very very bad 5 years on it. It did have a bad effect on my marriage which luckily we saved in time.

Rockbird · 24/04/2010 12:59

such an effect, obviously

This pill is notorious for its undesirable side effects - I had an awful time with it. The best thing is to go back to the GP and say it doesn't agree with you.

ohgoonthen · 28/04/2010 01:35

I was on Microgynon for about 6 years and had absolutely no problem with it. It was the first pill the doctor ever offered me and I felt no different at all, it actually seemed to reduce my period pain.
When I moved from the UK I switched to Marvelon as Microgynon isn't available here. I've had lots of problems with it the most recent being a positive pregnancy test just after christmas . I think different things suit different people. You should see your doctor and get something else, you shouldn't struggle on as you are.

I had no problems with it before DC1 - lightened bleeds and made me feel far less PMS-y than before.

Went back on it some months after DC1 and just bled and bled - hormones hadn't settled post birth enough.

Definitely get back to the GP and get an alternative. It is not worth being exhausted and in danger of anaemia let alone possible mood alterations too.
