Period lasting over a week. Is this my Pill's fault?

Had dd2 in Nov 08. Periods didn't return for nearly a year thanks to breastfeeding.

When they returned my cycle was quite short and after a few months was getting shorter.

I was feeling very run down so went to GP who put me on Cilest to regulate my periods.

The first month got a bit messed up as I had a suspected DVT so stopped while it was ruled out.

Because I missed most of the pills I waited til period started and started a new pack as if starting from scratch (as per nurse at GP's surgery instructions)

However I have been bleeding for over a week now and getting very worried.

Now starting to doubt the advice but surgery closed til Monday.

Anyone any experience?

I know my friend had to change pills because she had bleeding like this so maybe it is something that can happen anyway even without messed up first month.

Any experience/advice welcome.

Thanks
