Lump on back of skull, how long would you leave it before gp?

I have had a lump on the back of my head for about 3 days, its is about 1 cm away from my right ear and about 2 cm up from hairline, it is about the size of a large pea. Noticec it around 3 days ago when i was brushing my hair as it is very painful to touch. DH has had a look and its not red or a spot, you cant see anything to look under hair but can feel the lump. How long would you leave before gp? I am hoping it is just a gland

get your dh to squeeze it.
dp had something like this, said it was a painful lump, on closer inspection i couldn't really see anything raised at all, but squeezed it anyway and loads of crap came out!

Have had one for around 6 months - finally saw GP this week. Apparently it's a cyst and they don't remove them unless they are 2cm or more. Worth going though - I am not a doctor!

DD had a lump on the back of her head too. I took her to the doctors and they suggested it may have been a swollen gland. Low and behold, 2 days later she came down with tonsilitis.

Go and get it checked. It's probably nothing, but you pay your taxes to get free advise.....

sounds like a sebaceous cyst, probably. I would wait at least a month before panicking!

MaureenMLove · 22/04/2010 20:39

No, I haven't, but I'm very keen on people remembering that we are not wasting doctors time, by going to see them!

Have just noticed that i picked a scab on my scalp on the same side of this lump yesterday, it has rescabbed over. Could it be an infection? Would you get the infection where the scab was or could it be lower down
