God embarrassing or what. Every time I eat anything with oats, wholewheat (eg Weetabix, multigrain bread etc) I am dropping stinky eggy bombs by the evening

I'm fine eating pasta, white bread, flour etc so I can't be gluten intolerant right? I never used to have this problem before, has been about a year since this started.

Thing is I love oats and wholegrain/wholemeal food, and they are so good for you but I'm scared to eat them now!

Help....

Are you positive its the oats and wholeweat causing it? For me its garlic and bakedbeans that have the worst effects! Can't be much help I'm afraid. Nothing would come between me and the foods I like!

MooMinCow · 23/04/2010 10:01

Yes BBs - I don't have the problem when I cut them out of my diet. We eat a lot of beans, pulses and lentils and they cause no problems for me so can't figure out why oats and wholegrains cause so much smelly flatulence! Do you think its because I would eat them first thing in the morning on an empty stomach???

Maybe have to save them for weekends or when I'm not around other people so can fart happily away in the privacy of my own home

Try ONLY leave out the weetabix. I eat all sorts of whole grain, multigrain, rye bread, and wheat, but give me a wheetabix.....

MooMinCow · 23/04/2010 10:08

Phew - glad I'm not the only one that Weetabix effects in such an unpleasant way!

Soluble fibre in fruit and veg is different and gentler on the system than wheat bran.

You migh tbe just a tiny bit too sensitive to it- not coeliac as such but it could be irritating your guts.

Maybe you should leave out wheat and try just oats- they are gentler and don't have much gluten anyway.

flibbertigibbert · 23/04/2010 15:46

Could it be the milk with the Weetabix or the butter on multigrain bread that's causing the problem?

MooMinCow · 23/04/2010 20:53

nope don't think so as am fine with milk in other cereal/tea and butter on 50/50 bread or white bread.... Fgibbert
