I have had pain in my lower back for 3 weeks, last week it got a lot worse to the the point where i am walking bent over, i went to the GP on friday and he gave me 4 different tablets including codine. My back is still as bad (if not worse), i have been taking the tablets apart from the codine as codine gives me odd side effects and i am at home alone with 2 autistic children (i can't risk being high on the codine). I am awaiting an appointment with physio but this could take a week or so.

Is there anything else i can do to relieve the pain?

I have got so much to do (house work, getting the dd's ready to go back to school tomorrow) and i can hardly stand.

in situations like this I'd say forget the non important day to day activities like the housework - it can definitely wait, you will need any srength for your children.
I think the trick is to do some gentle pelvic tilts than can be done when you are standing up, this can help to keep the lower back moving. These are like tuckingyour tailbone in so that your hips rock forward like doing a gentle 'thrusting' movement. I know you are in pain though so try to take it easy. Sometimes when you take the pain relief these can remove the pain and you think you can get on with things, but if this is the case then please still take it really easy - you don't want to pull or hurt anything further while the pain relief is active.
If you have a hot wheat bag/hot water bottle this can sometimes help, sometimes ice packs can also help. I hope your physio app is sooner as they will assist you in managing.

Thanks indigo - Im ok until i sit down and then when i get up i can't straighten up. If I lie flat (on the bed or floor) and then get up i'm not too bad.

Tesco's are delivering my shopping soon, just a shame they can't unpack it for me too .
