My leg has gone numb!

I woke up this morning to find that the whole of my shin feels numb. Like when a dental aneasthetic is just about to wear off and the area feels mostly numb but with some muffled feeling, and a swollen sensation, even though there is no swelling.
I thought it would wear off, but it hasn't.

Any ideas?

It's spread round my leg to include my calf, now!

(can't remember where you work, but there are walk-in centres too - there's on in Soho but can't remember if you're in centre of town)

ask them to tell the gp and for him/her to ring you back. those symptoms need checking out imo.

Have googled numbness, and this is what it says under 'red flag':Sudden and progressive bilateral leg symptoms with sphincter disturbance suggest cord compression: admit immediately .

Oh well, whatever 'sphincter disturbance' is, I don't seem to be experienceing it.

ring nhs direct. I think they will recommend you go to A and E actually - I would deffo check it out.

no thats if you hurt your back - I remember that bit about sphincters

can you bend your foot -does it hurt?

(sphincter is simply circle of muscle, think bum )

Am waiting for NHS Direct to call back. My foot feels a bit woolly, too.

NHS Direct said make a GP appt (fter asking loads of q's to estblish that i'm not having a stroke or diabetes, i thnk!)
