Anyone any idea what this strange pain in my leg could be?

Pain in left leg, around calf area since Tues night.

I was a bit worried about DVT as I recently went back on the combined pill but I googled and don't have any other symptoms such swelling, heat in leg or discoloration.

Could it be caused by carrying dd2 (17 months so getting heavy) on that hip?

I can't think of anything else that would have caused it.

Took ibruprofen this morning. It's a bit better but still have a dull ache.

Hi Suiledonne, I don't have any useful information I'm afraid, but have similar symptoms so will be watching thread. My pain is on opposite side to the hip I carry DD (14 months) on.

Hope you get some helpful info soon.

Take a couple of aspirin. Measure it with a tape measure and then measure it again later. I had a clot in my leg, it was sore for a few days before any swelling occurred.

Better safe than sorry but it's probably nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the replies.

It is still bothering me.

cocolepew Did yours suddenly swell after days of pain? Was it a medical emergency when you realised?

Is it possible for you to describe the pain?

I am getting really paranoid now.

Thanks

It was like a dull ache, I only knew it had swollen becuse I had to undo the zip on my boot. It didn;t go red. I can't said I noticed it swelling Tbh, I went to A and E when I realised ithad swollen and got Herapin (or whatever it's called).

Thanks coco.

Anyone else any experience?

I am undecided to whether think it is nothing, go to GP tomorrow or call Out Of Hours service tonight.

It has gotten more painful as the day went on but no swelling or other symptoms.

Thanks

I phoned Out of hours and he told me to go to A and E. Wouldn't hurt to phone and put you mind at rest.

suiledonne · 08/04/2010 20:53

I think I should phone but am worried if OOH doctor can't rule it out the hospital is a long drive to next town.

Two dds are in bed and only DH here so would have to drive myself on an unfamiliar road with painful leg.

Silly I know cos if it is a DVT it needs to be treated.

Can a GP rule it out through exam or would tests be needed?

I don't know TBH, if you are worried you'll have to make a decision. A pain in your calf doesn't have to mean a clot, it just did for me. I drove myself there and back, it was ok except the injection was in my stomach and after about 10 minutes it really hurt.
did you take any aspirin? It thins your blood.
Hope it's ok.

suiledonne · 08/04/2010 21:11

Thanks coco. You have been very patient

Just triaged myself using a diagnostic checklist that doctors use and have nothing pointing towards DVT at all other than leg pain so going to see GP in the morning if no better.

Think I just spent too many years as a Medical Claims Examiner.

Thanks again.

Ok I'll watch for any updates. Take care.

cocolepew · 12/04/2010 17:53

How are you now?

suiledonne · 12/04/2010 17:59

Hi coco, saw the GP on Friday and he said more than likely muscular but he said he wouldn't totally rule out DVT.

I spent the entire weekend worrying about it but spoke to a lovely nurse today who said that unless the leg is hot, sore to touch or swollen it is very unlikely to be a clot.

I am going with the muscle pain diagnosis for now but unfortunately with 2 young children I have no time to rest and it is still quite painful.

Thanks for checking on me.

Glad it's not clot but sory about muscle pain. Feldene is a very good rub, my dad gets it on prescription.

suiledonne · 12/04/2010 18:04

The GP gave me one on prescription but I messed up and forgot to mention I was breastfeeding and it is not suitable for me to use.

I am taking Neurofen at bedtime and hot water bottle. Seems to help a little.

Syndol has a muscle relaxant in it.

(I'm not some sort of prescription med junkie BTW)
