When the painkillers run out - gargle with dissolvable disprin extra before swallowing it.

tonsilitus - Horrible, horrible, horrible. I had mine out aged 29 cos I'd enough by then.

ditavionteased · 07/04/2010 07:03

does that stop it, I always thought if you had them out the infection just went somewhere else. can't ring docs till 8.15, too early to ring my mum and ask her to have dc. dd1 being angelic. Can't even swallow my own spit now so I am dribbling everywhere.

Well I had them out 14 years ago and not suffered since

Bucharest · 07/04/2010 10:22

I had mine out at 22 and haven't suffered since.

Gargle with salt water if you've taken your dose of meds until you can take them again.

thanks, my mum is on her way rounbd to pick dc up, got some anti biotics to pick up from docs, they don't see you unless they have yto so can't ask about hAVING them out, doc just said oh you have had tonsilitus a lot so you knnow if it is that.

If you are suffering alot - make an appointment and ask about having them removed.

I would/did and it was the best thing as like I say I haven't suffered it again in 14 years

Suck ice lollies or ice cubes. There is some spray you can get which numbs your throat but i havn't got a clue what its called (sorry i'm not much help).

MaureenMLove · 07/04/2010 14:24

Chloroseptic is the spray. I've just nursed DD over her first bout of tonsilitis.

She had lots of yoghurt drinks and smoothies. Water melon and scrambled egg. Start getting those anti-b's down as quick as possible though. It's the only way.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

ditavionteased · 07/04/2010 17:12

well I got the anti b's dosed myself up on painkillers and been asleep all afternoon, been asleep too long everything has wo4rn ofgf and back to not being ablre to swallow my own spit. this is beyond hideous.

is this the worst you've known it? if you really can't swallow your own saliva, eat or drink properly or get the abs / paracetamol down and it's not getting any better, it could be an abcess. If you get to the point of hardly being able to speak, go and see the dr or go to a&e. Really. Only way to get rid of an abcess is to drain it and then go on IV abs.

and YES totally recommend having tonsils out. had mine done last year. 10 days of recovery, most of which was low level pain, a couple where the pain was bad. no more tonsilitis. and I was getting it every 8-12 weeks - worth every bit of the post op pain to be free of it!

hope you feel better soon.

Icecream! Its cold and even if the taste might not be fantastic for you right now (sweet doesn't taste normal when ill) I've always found the consistency really nice when ill. The icecream will give you a bit of calories too which may make you feel a bit better. Get well soon!

ditavionteased · 07/04/2010 17:30

feels like the worst, but then it always does when your ill dosn't it. def not abbsess, can see the infection, can swallow when painbkillers working just really hard to get them down and tazking about an hour to kick in and only working for an hour iyswim.

Agree with postal just be wary that it hasn't turned into an abcess, I've just had one and couldn't swallow my saliva either. You have my full sympathy tis so awful. I'm having mine out this month. Agree with others see your doctor and push to have them out
