Ear pain but not an ear infection!

I am really struggling at the moment with this. I have had problems with my sinuses for the last year and I am under an ENT Consultant. When I saw him 5 weeks ago, he asked me if I had any ear pain - as my eustachian tubes were inflamed, at the time everything was fine. A week later the pain started, initially it was on and off and then it was more or less constant for a week.

I went to the GP as I had a sinus infection too, was placed on ABs. GP said that he could see no infection in my ears, but he could tell that the symptoms were there for a sinus infection and that my glands in my neck were also up.

After a week, my ear pain had gone. Unfortunately the ear pain came back yesterday and it really is quite uncomfortable, I obviously had a bad nights sleep and the thought it going on for another week fills me with dread!

I am due to see the ENT consultant in 2 weeks so will be mentioning it to him, but I was just wondering what I can do in the meantime.

What can I do to ease it, at the moment I am taking paracetamol and neurofen in between, but they are hardly hitting the spot.

Many thanks

some sort of heat pack/hot water bottle?

Steam is supposed to help too.

Really not a happy bunny tonight - the pain is awful, pain killers and wheat bag not toughing it.
