i think its different in different areas.
my hubby had one and he only had to wait about 8 weeks,
it also depends on personal circs as some doctors want him to have counselling until they are sure he is ready to go through with it,
my hubby had a meeting with docs and was on the list, every time they sent an app through it was 4/5 days notice so he couldnt get off work.he was taken off the waiting list,
we had another baby
he went back to docs and they put him on the list straight away,8 weeks later was done lol!

We had a choice of about 4 NHS surgeries/clinics and we chose our most local one, hubby had to wait 6 weeks but only because the doctor was going on holiday for 3 weeks - our doctor was also the most experienced ( his last failure was 10 yea rs ago) and used the most "safe" technique, which involves burying the cut ends of the vas in the scrotal tissue to avoid recanalisation.

Yes - depends where you live but 6 to 8 weeks seems reasonable. But remember - you must regard it as irreversible. Even though they sometimes can be reversed in an anatomical sense that doesn't mean fertility will resume as sometimes you develop antibodies to your own sperm!
Also remember you have to wait for two consecutive semen samples a month apart before you stop using other contraception.
But ignore any stories you hear about reduced ejaculate volume, diminished libido or increased risks of cancer of prostate or testes following vasectomy - they are all NOT TRUE!
