dd1 has molluscum on her face - will it leave scars?

She is really good about not picking them, but occasionally she knocks the top off one, which leaves a red mark. She's had them now for about three/four months.

I don't think that my kids have any scars left from when they had molluscum. I don't think you need to worry.

Have you been to the doctors?

No they won't. dd had them all over her body and one weekend they all got really badly infected and red and yellow. I got antibiotics for the infection cos she was itching them like billy-oh. They started to disappear after that. Initially they left red marks but its all gone now

Yup marslady, GP printed out some information for us and said not to do anything with them. Compared to some pictures I've seen on the internet, they are not that bad really - just raised bumps around her chin and mouth, and a couple on her neck.

I suppose I worry because I had really bad acne as a teenager which I didn't care about at the time, but feel self-conscious of the scars now.

Excellent Pixiefish, that's good to know. Dd1 is 8, old enough to understand about leaving them alone even if they itch, thank goodness!

Dd2 had lots of molluscum but apart from one which got very infected (red line running up her arm etc ) they haven't left noticeable marks. Even the infected one has left only the faintest of pinkish scars, much, much better than dd1's chicken-pox scars.

Both my DSs have some small 'pitting' scars from some of their mollusca, usually the big ones. Many of DS2's mollusca are coming to a head right now and he has about 7 that are infected to some degree - doc has given antibiotics for second time in a month because of the little blighters. He's had some really nastily infected ones and he doesn't seem to scratch them - they all just seem to get really inflamed. He has some on his neck and I worry they will scar.
Might try the manuka honey - certainly the tea tree oil didn't make any difference, though DS2 smelt like an aromatherapy shop.
