Anyone out there ever broken their wrist?

I've recently fractured the radius bone in my arm (also known as a colles fracture). I went to theatre the nbext day and had it pinned and it's now in a cast. I have to go back in 3 weeks time to have the pins removed.

Sorry to anyone if theiur have broken their wrist before - but just wanted to ask a quick couple of questions.

When did the arm become slightly usable without hurting and when did it return to normalish function? I know everyone is different but just wanted an idea.

I have a 3 year old and 11 month old to look after so it's not being the easiest thing in the world to look after them at the moment....

I did this when I was 14 - god I can still remember how much it throbbed! I remember by six weeks it was weak but useable and it took till about three months to go back to normal.

I broke my wrist 2 years ago- same type of fracture as you but mine didn't need pinning.

I was able to use it a bit-eg eating, using computer mouse etc after around 1 week while it was still in plaster.

Plaster came off at 4 weeks-wasn't back to normal function though until 2 weeks after that - it felt very weak when plaster came off.

HTH!

oh dear... I'm 2 weeks on after breaking it. I was hoping to be able to use it next week. At the moment I can't use the broken hand to pick up anything heavier than a packet of crisps. Unfortunately my 11 month old is quite heavy...

It's my own fault that I did it whilst snowboarding but I've done it for years and didn't think I would fall over if I was careful as I don't go fast anymore.

Any inkling when my hand will be ok to move gearstick? I'm itching to get back driving.

Ask to be checked for osteoporosis.

Reesie I didn't feel safe to drive until about a week after the plaster was off so around 5 weeks after the break.

I slipped at home and broke my arm-couldn't believe it-it was a really minor fall! Had a scan for osteoporosis and all was fine so must have been unlucky-I've fallen when skiing loads of times and never broken anything!
