i woke up on Monday morning with a really noticable Red vein in my left eye and eye bloodshot. Tried to get an appointement with the doc but was told by receptionist that opticians deal with all eye problems now so i went to my local Specsavers and she said it was some condition cant remember name and that it was probably permanent. There must be something to take away redness in this day and age i know Eye Dew makes it worse after a while does anyone know how to make it better ?

does your local hospital have an Eye Casualty department? DD1 was referred there by her optician as she has iritis, and they were great.

Sorry but I have a bit of a blob in my eye and a vein - both reddish, and have had them for about 30 years. They're not very big or noticeable but yes, once they were there they stayed!

Are you anywhere near London? If you go to Moorfields A&E and are prepared to queue and obviously be triaged behind any emergencies I think you will get better information than at the opticians. Or you can ask your GP to refer you to an eye dept (I do think that the receptionist telling you that opticians deal with all eye problems is a bit off frankly - you want an opthamologist - opticians do have some training in eye-related medical problems but they are not eye doctors).

Did the optician say the bloodshot look would remain, or just the vein? I'd be very surprised if the vein ever went, but pretty surprised if the general bloodshot appearance didn't improve.

thanks so much for the replies she said it might not always be as Red as it is now but cant see how it could suddenly stop being bloodshot . i dont really care about the vein as such but the bloodshotness (is that a word?)is really geting me down .I know its trivial compared to lots of things i could have and i keep telling myself to get over it but everybody sees your eyes and they were always my best feature not got much else to fall back on
