3rd/4th degree tears, when did you resume "marital relations"

At 10 weeks since birth my physiotherapist seemed surprised I hadn't . I pointed out that the consultant said internal stitches don't generally heal for around 12 weeks.

Physically I'm not up to it yet, let alone psychologically. It doesn't help that my GP said the main problem would be if I'd been sewn up too tight! The consultant also merrily said that it would be "painful".

6 months. It still hurt even then, at first entry, and he had to be very gentle. Pleased to report that after about 9 months there was no pain at all - I now feel exactly the same as pre preg

Don't worry, take your time. Sex doesn't have to be about penetration anyway. Just kissing and cuddling (with no expectations) is all a step in the right direction.

Is your DH understanding?

Thanks for your response. It's great to know that you now feel as you did pre pregnancy.

Thankfully DP is understanding and we'll be waiting a while longer!

Probably was about 4 months, and the thought of it was more scarey than the actual doing it! It was uncomfortable the first couple of times but had all settled down within 6 months.

TBH I think that it is hard enough the first time after a baby even without 3rd or 4th degree tears, always took me about 3 months to work up to it!!

Nikita09 you are so right. With first baby we were so exhausted we didn't do anything for at least 3 months...
