Small breast lump below nipple. Anyone want to make me feel better...?!

I am trying to tell myself that most people with lumps find them to be benign, but hey am only human. It's hard, v.small - sort of lentil type size - feels round, and is just below my nipple. I'm going to Doctor's tomorrow, but if anyone's had one like this that happened to be benign I would oh so love to hear about it.

I have exactly that. I've had it for over 4 years now and have had 2 daughters since I've had it. Mine is a benign cyst just below my nipple on the edge of my aerola. I was VERY freaked out by it when I first found it and was most unimpressed that it took I think around 6 weeks for a scan. There were many tears at the time I can assure you, but all was fine.

mine was same place, had a lumpectomy which was fine. it turned out to be an ingrowing hair!!!

When DD was about 2, I found a similar sounding lump right next to my nipple. You literally had to push your finger almost under the nipple to feel it. I was living in Germany at the time and the GP sent me straight for a scan I think, or they may have just checked it by hand, and found nothing unusual. They said that as I had breast fed DD, it was probably a duct that had changed position since birth.
That said, you'll feel much better after your GP check up so stay postive. I'm sure it will be fine and nothing to worry about.

That was so fast. THANK YOU. Googling is a curse, Mumsnet is fab. If anyone else wants to add feel free.

ive had 3 lumps. 2 in one breast and one in the areola on the other. The were all removed and were benign fibroadenomas..or they now call them breast mice

I had one too, it felt like a small hard pea. It was a fluid filled cyst.

Get to the GP they will refer you and you should be seen v quickly (I waited a couple of weeks).

ShowOfHands · 18/03/2010 00:17

Me too. Same place. Was an infected duct. Or gland. Or something. See, I forget, it was that unremarkable.

Nearly always nothing. GP will refer quickly. Try not to worry, there's a brilliant chance you have no need to.

9/10 breast lumps are benign (not cancerous). Obviously your own doctor needs to see it but from your description, I would be amazed if this turned out to be anything nasty. (I am a GP).

Thanks to all. I'm just back from GP, who found the lump easily. It's bigger than I thought - he thinks up to 2cm. It's very mobile. He found no signs of dimpling on my skin, or any other signs of change, which at least is something. He's given me an urgent referral, so says I should be seen within 2 weeks. Bit more scared now to be honest. Though I know it could easily be nothing. Fear's not rational though is it?!

I would refer any new lump urgently so the fact that your GP has done an urgent referral doesn't mean that he is expecting it to be anything nasty. Glad you'll be seen quickly though - hopefully the clinic will be able to put your mind at rest.

snigs · 18/03/2010 20:08

Thanks jybay, very kind of you to say that. I know it's likely to be benign, but the words 'urgent referral' do make you think a bit. Wish I could have the appointment tomorrow now.

I had one just above the nipple. It was a duct that was enlarged.

Hope everything is ok for you.

Thanks 101dalmations. Am trying to be calm.. Good to hear positive stories though. I wish I could be seen now, just so I know either way.

Amazing NHS - just got round to opening post and I have an appointment for next Tuesday. That's less than a week since the Doctor's appointment. It's one of those one stop places, so I should know on the day if I have to worry or not.
