Get thee to a pharmacist pronto!

Im sure they will have something - think there used to be stuff called golden eye ointment. good luck!

suwoo · 16/03/2010 18:57

DH used to get them all the time, but hasn't had one for a few months. He suggests going to the GP and getting antiseptic eye drops as the cream the pharmacist gave him (Brolene) made it worse. He got a great cream from the pharmacist in France called Pommade Maurice. Not that, thats much help .

IMoveTheStars · 16/03/2010 18:58

the pharmacist should be able to give you some cream - worked for me fairly quickly last time

hth

You need Golden Eye Ointment. I think there is also an old wive's tale that they disappear if rubbed with something gold like a wedding ring - hence the name of the ointment, probably.

BariatricObama · 16/03/2010 19:03

i second golden eye.

megcleary · 16/03/2010 19:15

golden eye - yes, that's what it's called.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 16/03/2010 20:18

You could try a hot compress as well (flannel in hand-hot water then wrung out) to speed up the resolution.

megcleary · 16/03/2010 20:23

Dh shot off to Tesco and got some Golden Eye have been doing the compress and now put the ointment on it looks a MILLION times worse, the whole side of my head has swollen .....my be slight exaggeration there..... but it is bigger...thats probably good....

I use a homeopathic remedy .. I think it is euphrasia .. and it gets rid of them every time. You can buy it in boots etc ... worth a try!

CoteDAzur · 16/03/2010 20:28

Cut a garlic clove in half and press the wet side on the stye. It will be gone by tomorrow.

cocolepew · 16/03/2010 20:30

Cold tea.

HumphreyCobbler · 16/03/2010 20:30

They say breastmilk works a treat. Not tried it myself but it works for conjunctivitis.

I am entirely serious.

White gold is the old wives' tale, if that's not too specific!!

I'd avoid the garlic, purely because of that other thread about using it for getting rid of worms...

bilblio · 16/03/2010 21:51

I had one a few weeks ago. I looked like I'd been punched, collegues at work were very concerned. I went to GP, he gave me antibiotics and some eye drops, prescription version of Optrex infected eye. I only took one antibiotic then stopped because by the time the next was due my eye was so much better from the drops I decided the tablets were OTT.

Mine was back to normal within about 3-4 days.

CMOTdibbler · 17/03/2010 09:00

I'd go to the GP if it is generally swollen - DH got cellulitis round his eye a couple of weeks ago, and it was really nasty

megcleary · 18/03/2010 23:28

Right now the other eye has conjunctivitis I look like a freak argh

GwennieF · 20/03/2010 21:03

Use a teabagas a compress - works a treat....

cornsilk · 20/03/2010 21:06

golden eye and make sure you eat well and get lots of sleep.I only get them if I'm run down.

megcleary · 23/03/2010 20:45

Right the conjunctivitis is gone but the stye remains and have used the golden eye to no avail. Wedding is sat and am just hoping make up will disguise it, thanks for all the advice.

any more stye tips people its really getting me down now

ABetaDad · 23/03/2010 23:33

Hot water with salt and a ball of cotton wool.

Soak the cotton wool in the water which should be as hot as you can possibly bear. It will hurt but put it directly on the 'head' of the stye, press firmly and keep it there. Keep refreshing the hot water to keep it hot. It may burst by the morning. If not repeat until it does.

Our old doctor used to say this was the only way. I get styes when I am tired or run down. Zinc and Vitamin C supplements help keep them away.
