Should I follow dr's orders or obey the leaflet?

Brief history... had DD one year ago, been trying different pills since last summer but none seem to be agreeing with me. I've been spotting for about a month now, with a heavy bleed 2 weekends ago. Had taken 2 packs back to back as didn't want AF over DD's birthday. Saw dr (not one I usually see & didn't have much faith in him) last week. He prescribed new pill and said to finish current strip, take 7 day break, then start new pack. I have just finished the old pack but the leaflet says if changing from a different pill, to start new pack immediately after finished old pack, so dr gave conflicting advice and I dunno what to do. Dunno if I should take a break and have a good "proper" clear-out of a bleed/period or do as the leaflet says and keep taking pills. Help! I can't get an appointment with my usual dr who knows me well until next month. What would you do?
Sorry, maybe that's hard to follow. THanks for "listening" anyway.

i would phone the pharmacist for advice, or a family planning clinic, or get a phone consultation with the gp asap
