Lots of little lumps / red pin prick marks on my fingers (one hand) - any ideas what it could be?

While sitting in hospital the other day I noticed my hand started to go all funny on the palm side - lots of little bumps/lumps under the skin on my left hand and up the side of my thumb, and up the side of the right thumb. I presumed it was a bit of a reaction to the hand gel (although I have used it tons of times before). By Monday though (this happened Thurs) it was still the same, bit prickly/itchy and lots of little red dots on my fingers, mainly at the top of the underside (palm side). It is still there, a week later and I have done nothing more to that hand that isn't usual. If I gently rub along those fingers I can feel all the little lumps (100+) and can see them in certain lights, and the little red marks although they can be harder to see sometimes. GOing to GP would be a nightmare, besides I presume(d) it was just a normalish reaction... anyone know? Thanks
