Do you know when the little fountain in the centre of the baby's head is going to close?

we gave ds short haircut to ds nearly one year old now... and noticed that his head is still a bit soft and moving in the middle....

will go to doctor in few weeks...just want to know your opinion....and if you know ...

Has he had enough to drink today?

NomDePlume · 16/07/2005 15:48

I think it can take up to 18 months for the skull bones to fuse completely

NomDePlume · 16/07/2005 15:51

if it looks a bit 'sunken' then it could be a bit of dehydration.

sasa15 · 16/07/2005 15:51

what you mean about drinking water...???

ok up to 18 months....fine ....just normal

especially if you live in warmer climes (i think you do) or you're enjoying this UK heatwave....

Some kids' fontanelles close earlier. But a year is not late at all, to still have it open.

If the fontanelle is sunken, that's a sign of dehydration. But it being soft and going up and down with his pulse, is very normal.

sasa15 · 16/07/2005 15:56

yeah it pulse up and down...

he drinks plenty of water....

Yeah, they normally move with their pulse. My kids are pale with not much hair, so I can't avoid seeing theirs. If they're annoyed, it moves more, I think.
