Any guesses on why my little finger has been numb / tingly for 4 days ?

I don't want to do the scary google thing as I am sure I will be told that I am about to have a heart attack at any moment . But I feel really silly making a gp appointment about a tingly finger .

Any ideas please ?

It is my left hand btw

mine is like that and its because I have hurt my shoulder! It gets worse when I am writing, apparently the torn shoulder muscle is swollen and trapping the nerve in my arm. However my whole arm is sore and my shoulder pretty tender so you would probably know it's that!

travellingwilbury · 26/02/2010 18:54

Trapped nerve sounds sensible , maybe it is my mumsnetting position that needs to be looked at .

Or of course I could stop playing around on the laptop and do housework and stuff .

Or maybe a tingly finger is ok

i must confess I have been mumsnetting with one hand only!

travellingwilbury · 01/03/2010 08:16

Quite right too , it shows stamina .

Ok now my next finger along has started as well , and down the side of my hand has gone weird as well .

Any ideas ? Or still going with the trapped nerve thing ?

I imagine it is something to do with the nerves being irritated or inflamed. I don't think you can trap a nerve. I have sporadic spondylosis and when it is playing up my ring and little finger feel odd.
I'd go to my GP for more reasurrance, but I don't think you need to worry too much.

Either nerves. Or possibly Reynauds (constriction of blood vessels caused by cold) - but that would be odd for one finger. See a GP - I don't think he/she will tell you you are about to keel over!

travellingwilbury · 01/03/2010 09:09

Thank you both of you , I think maybe I will try and give my gp a ring an dsee what she says . It is just odd .

still sounds like a trapped/irritated nerve, mine affects the whole side of hand and also up my arm...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2010 10:14

it does sound like ulnar nerve - may be squooshed in your wrist or your elbow . Is it your mouse hand?

travellingwilbury · 01/03/2010 10:40

Not my mouse hand no , I have just had a load of b12 injecions as I was really low and I know that b12 can affect nervous system . Any link do you think ?

'fraid you'd need to talk to your gp about that.

blinks · 01/03/2010 12:52

i get this from sitting with my elbow on the table for too long... the little finger and the one beside it are connected to your ulnar nerve and it's pretty easy to irritate it.

travellingwilbury · 01/03/2010 13:01

It is all starting to look like I will have to stop wasting time on here then ?
That is exactly how I sit blinks so does make sense . It is there all the time though , not just when I am sitting on the comp .

OP posts:
blinks · 01/03/2010 13:20

yeah- i get it all the time, not just when on the comp.

just try resting your arm differently... it'll take a wee while to subside.

if it's still there in a couple of weeks or spreading/changing, a jaunt to the gp for you.

DecorHate · 01/03/2010 13:26

I have had this - and I have to admit it probably started one day when I was on MN for too long!

I saw my GP who did blood tests to rule out anything nasty and then referred me for physio. I'm not sure the physio made any difference tbh but the problem definitely seems to be related to my shoulder now though I didn't have any discomfort in my shoulder when it first happened...

Mine comes and goes now - is worse if I have slept awkwardly at night. It improved a lot when I was on holidays somewhere warmer than here last summer so you could try one of those wheat bag thingys?

travellingwilbury · 01/03/2010 13:35

Thanks both of you , decorhate did you also have a break from the comp when you were on holiday ?

I do think it sounds like a new condition called MN finger

I have got a sickly boy at home today and so I have done very little else today , this may well make me get off my backside tomorrow and do something else .

maybe ......

I am just guessing so ignore me at your discretion but have you left an elastic band wrapped round it several times? This always makes mine very tingly and one time it nearly fell off completely.

DecorHate · 01/03/2010 13:46

Oh yes, didn't think of that aspect!

Flightattendant · 01/03/2010 13:49

Note to self not to try and be 'funny' when one has PMT. It tends to expose weird side of sense of humour. sorry!
