18yo sister - spots, chicken pox?

Hiya,

My 18yo sister has had a handful of slightly odd spots for the last week or so - not painful or itchy, and fairly well distributed across her body. Since they weren't itchy or painful she's just left them, but called me today because they'd suddenly gotten so itchy she couldn't concentrate on the essay she was writing. I've sent her off to have a glug of anti-histamine, but was wondering if anyone had any insight?

Can't get a Drs appt. until tomorrow now, and NHS direct is insisting she has meningitis (the spots fade when pressed with a glass, so she obviously doesn't...) She has had chicken pox once, mildly, as a young child, and hasn't been in contact with anyone with it as far as I know, so it seems unlikely...

Just a little bit paranoid I suppose, I know chicken pox can be nasty in adults!

doesnt sound like chicken pox if she has had them for a week without them turning into blisters/scabbing, etc. Do they follow a line on the body as that could indicate shingles which you can only get if you have had chicken pox in the past.
