My poor old Nan was admitted to hospital yesterday with dehydration, rib pain, increased confusion and so the list goes on. Anyway having visited her weekly at her residential home I took my mum up to see her this morning and just think she looks dreadful.

It's not helping that she won't keep her line in as she keeps fiddling with the cannula and pulling it out as she doesn't know what it is - she has short term memory problems anyway so you can explain what's it's for but moments later she has forgotten. So she's not getting any IV fluids, they are pushing oral fluids but she's so sleepy I'm not sure how much she's taking. Dr's think she has a UTI which she suffers with anyway so quite probable that this is what's the problem.

Just feel really sad. I gave her a kiss goodbye this morning and it felt so poignant , I'm trying hard not to be pessimistic

Hope you nan is ok. My nan is in hosptial atm, and has been for over 3 wks. Its really upsetting isn't it , so feel for you.

At the end of my nans bed they have her notes where they record her fluid intake, you could look at that or ask a nurse to put your mind at rest.My nan was on a drip, but now just drinks cups of water, so I guess it easier for me to see she is getting enough water.

Good luck.
