Ok so I think I've managed to deafen myself - please come and reassure me it's temporary!!

DP and I helped out at a children's swimming party yesterday and DP got a bit over excited and decided to dunk me It took me by surprise and I'm not sure what I did but my ears popped really severely and I've been in a fair bit of pain on and off since - worse when I'm lying down so not really slept last night - manageable though with a small dose of painkillers.

The slightly worrying thing is that my hearing seems affected, it sounds like I'm under water IYKWIM, and while the pain seems to be lessening slightly there is no improvement to my hearing. I've tried swallowing, sucking sweets, blowing my nose, 'blowing out' my ears while holding my nose, etc, and nothing seems to work.

Could I have damaged my ears or will it just take a little while to go back to normal? I'm prone to ear popping when flying but it's never been this painful or affected my hearing.

Any advice please? Has anyone done this before?

I'm sure it will be temp but maybe worth seeing a Dr if it persists. Maybe the water has dislodged some wax and thats why your ears are so bunged up? Or wax could be trapping the water there.

I need my ears syringing out quite often as I go deaf and nothing works to clear them, normally happens after a cold.

hmm yes could be wax but don't really want to go poking about in there

I just assumed it would right itself overnight and am mildly concerned that it hasn't
