May I heartily recommend the neti pot (for all your nasal irrigation needs)?

I'm not joking, I promise.

It looks like this except ours is plastic, not ceramic.

You use it to sloosh out your nose. It's not terribly glamerous, I'll grant you, but you do feel ever so clear and zingy when you finish!

My friend recommended it and now I have the whole family neti potting on a regular basis.

I have taken to preventative neti potting.

Dh has a dreadful cold and has been neti potting to clear it all out. It really works! And it's so satisfying.

Does any one else neti pot? You should!

I do, I do, I care about nasal irrigation and I find those saline sprays are rubbish. I am going to try this. Thanks. I will get with the neti pot programme.

Do you use saline in it or what?

SoupDragon · 22/02/2010 11:13

why on earth would I want to irrigate my nose??

CaptainNancy · 22/02/2010 11:20

Soupy- it's really helpful when one has sinusitus, partic if you're pg, and can't have ABs...

It is so good to know we have an official MN dragon

Saline sprays? Pah!

Mine came with a little sachet of salt which I make up with warm water.

Soupy, try it. You might like it.

I had chronic sinus problems and was on all sorts of steroid sprays and abs. In the end I gave them up and got a machine which gently blew the saline solution right round the sinuses it was fab and it worked wonders. It is such a faff to do I stopped it after a few years. The neti pot looks a bit more user friendly.

DH is a sinusy type and successfully used a neti pot to delay sinus surgery for a couple of years. Swears by it, he does.

MaMight · 22/02/2010 11:44

It's no faff at all Paddy. Takes less time than cleaning your teeth, start to finish. Nothing to assemble or clean or anything. Well, you do give it a rinse out, but nothing fiddly at all.

Can I use it for my ear that is still completely blocked about 4 weeks after having been ill.

Erm... probably not Rockbird.

...unless you envisage the saline solution pouring in one ear and coming out the other?

I have never tried the neti pot but I'm a great fan of Neilmed Sinus rinse It's the same principle but I think it's a bit easier to use.
