Late last night I started to feel like I had pulled a muscle in my groin. At east i think it is my groin. It is where the top of my leg meets my undercarriage lol.

Didn't think anything of it all, although wondered what I had done as I haven't done any exercise at all.

So, today it is more uncomfortable, sore and achey. Have just had a look and when there pain is, my leg/groin is red, swollen and hard to touch. Is that normal for a pulled muscle ?? When I prod around it does actually feel like I have a very hard strip under my skin.

I'm ever so slightly freaked out now, so any information would be gratefully recieved.

I'd give them a call for peace of mind.

With redness, swelling and pain i'd want to rule out infection if I were you.

You need to see a doc. Poss asap. Could be a hernia?

Hmmm hadn't thought of infection. How on earth would I have got that.

I googled, as you do, and swelling and tenderness is normal apparently, and requires ice pack.

Right, will ice pack it for a while and then see.

I am wracking my brains trying to think what I have been doing that could have caused it.

Don't think it is a hernia, it's not in the right place i don't think.

It feels bruised and thats about it. I can sit and walk ok. Can tell it is there but it's not stopping me from doing anything.

It sounds a bit like how a varicous vein (not sure about the spelling) starts off. It's a common place to get them too isn't it?

bargainhuntingbetty · 21/02/2010 15:08

Could be an ingrown hair causing infection, do you shave (as opposed to wax etc)??? I would go and see the gp tomorrow if its no better.

MrsMorgan · 21/02/2010 15:08

Ok have looked up hernias and pretty sure it isn't that. They seem to form more of a lump and this is more like a strip of hard muscle. Well thats how it feels.

Thanks for hat suggestion peas, will look that up too.

Can you get a sudden burst blood vessel there? I occasionally get them in my fingers, usually commenced by a stinging feeling, sometimes a mild sensation of something popping, then a hot feeling followed by slight swelling and tightness in the finger and a large area that looks like a bruise, or may start out red then turn into a bruise. My main thought would be an infected hair follicle, though, as the groin area at the top of the leg tends to have quite a few hairs there, which you might or might not shave...

MrsMorgan · 21/02/2010 15:50

Hmm not shaved there in a long while tbh (on the shelf emoticon needed)

Going to see how it is in the morning and go to the gp if it is no better.

Right, it is no better today, still very red and hard and sore.

My mum has scared me half to death mentioning dvt's so I am going to ring the gp's when they open.

Did you get an appointment, what did they say????

MrsMorgan · 22/02/2010 11:27

Well apparently it is an abccess, or the start of one.

Have been given a course of antibiotics and told to go back if it doesn't improve or gets worse.

An abccess was the last thing I was expecting tbh. I feel kind of manky lol.
