I think I may have a hernia - what should I do?

I was at docs with son who has chest infection and mentioned I keep feeling a 'ball' shape in my tummy just below line of belly button to right hand side. It mainly happens after I have stood up or lifted baby up etc.

Baby 2 is 10wks old. Relatively easy and normal delivery. Baby 1 is 3.4.

Doc had a feel could not feel anything. He said come back in week if symptoms persist. I have looked on NHS direct, and on there only way to fix is surgery!? aaaahhh, now in panic - do they not sometimes just clear up on their own?

This really is a question for your doctor. Do as has been advised and go back in a week if things are no better. Then discuss your individual case with your doctor face to face. I'm sure there are different severities of the condition & the appropriate treatment will vary accordingly. But be prepared for surgery, although it is not as invasive these days as it used to be.

Thanks. Basically freaked out this morning but did not let onto GP so I think he thought I was not bothered!

Now calm again - will go back in a week. I have read that sometimes they can push them back in, so hopefully that will be the way it goes.
